Aura, Aurora, Satori The paintings are about connection connection of mind, energy and physical body as well as a connection to medium and connection to people. True connection to an emotion or another person is hard to come by. People are guarded, as afraid of their neighbors as they are of strangers on the street. But certain religions have found connection for thousands of years using meditation. I have learned yoga and meditation. These have fostered a closer connection with myself and the environment around me. My paintings have become a form of meditation in which others are invited to reflect and meditate as viewers who participate. These pictures invade the mysterious and entice people to connect. Emotion and energy become tangible so viewers can look deeper into themselves and each other. I look for auras but not those I see around the subject. Rather, these auras come from within myself. They combine with the feeling of the subject and erupt on paper through my paint. Although the figure often appears to be the main focus of the pictures, what drives them is my emotion and mindset at the time I lay down the color wash and then arrange the figure on it. The placement of the figure registers my feeling of the moment. An awkward and unbalanced placement possibly with hesitating lines might reflect a feeling of instability and lack of confidence. That could also have a mystical and mysterious meaning. The color and the figure have equal importance and one should not always be seen as being placed over the other or as background. They are one and the same, much as a person's actions and emotions are different intimates in the same setting and in same person.
